To any ComStar forces still alive. I do not know how long it will take before, or if, you receive this transmission. But it is sent it in hope you will. This the CSV Oberon, we are alive. A surprise attack by the Word of Blake damaged our KF Drive and we have mis-jumped to region beyond the Caliban Nebula. We have minimal resources and less than a hundred souls aboard. It will take several years before we can reach Tukayyid but we will not give up. We will not abandon you. I wish you well in the conflict with the traitors. Have faith, the Oberon survives and we are coming.

This is the CSV Oberon. ComStar's most advanced warship. The Oberon was designed upon the template of the Star League's own Titania class Battlecruiser.

The Oberon is a 1,700,000 ton warship, with armour greater than its predecessor and a deadly amount of firepower including more than 50 AR-10 launchers and over a dozen Gauss Cannons along a compliment of over 80 Fighters and 9 hardpoints for dropships.

The design is is also equipped with a VVA System which protects the forwards quadrant of the craft by sealling the prow as seen here.

Oddly elegant, but I guess I can attribute that to the planet backdrop and the lighting. The lighting and background make it harder to see the absolutely gigantic nose guns, so I guess that helps a bit. Makes it seem a bit less threatening.

Thanks, I wanted to try and make the design look beautiful in a serene kind of way. It easy to look at it and see a beautiful but devastatingly powerful warship, but to make it look as helpless and lost, as the crew find themselves in is not easy when your ship looks (figuratively) like it's just two seconds away from ripping your arms off and clubbing you to death with them.

Heh, well, it worked. It's actually hard to see it helpless and lost, unless you began trying to show actual damage on the ship. Like one of the fore armor sections completely missing, trails from one of the engines, etc.

But it's really hard to see past it just being lost instead of helpless. Really hard. You did too well in making it devastating, methinks.

now there's an a idea, the Oberon after a hard battle. Broken and battered but still victorious.

Hmm, never considered that.. or had I? :D

Heh, well, it'd sort of help with the helpless part. But it would be interesting to see what you'd picture as a wounded ship, especially how much damage you think it could take before it looks more like it was mauled.

Well that image will come soon. I have few more to finish doing yet and a few other bits and bobs, but I already have the frame work laid out for it. :D

Awesome! I like hearing that kind of thing. Heh. Wounded, not broken. Somehow, it tends to make some things even more awesome than usual.

It's on my list after the ones I've already got to finish. I've got one of the Titania that's giving me real pains but should, with luck, look really good but bad at the same time.

Greetings from Babylon 5. ^^
Nice one overall, but the lighting looks kinda inconsistent.
The planet is lit from the left, so it seem while the light on the cruiser comes from a different direction.
Am I wrong ?

I'm glad you like it, and thanks for your thoughts.

However I'm afraid you are wrong, the scene only had a single targeted light source and a second 0.1 intensity ambient omnilight near to the camera so I'm not sure why the lighting appears to be inconsistent.

It's all right, I'm sure it'll come to you. The nose is a bit of an odd looking thing I agree. It looks a lot like a giant wedge. But then I guess that's because it makes it easier to do this.

Really amazing work, she looks very cool. Love the blue flames' effect too. Great work with the background! What's not to like in this piece?

Thank you for your kind words. I'm glad you like it.

The model has come a long way since the first image I did with it. Despite constant side tracking with other things. :)

You're not wrong it is an unpleasant situation to find yourself in, and it forms the basis for the tale that :iconcolourbrand: and I are weaving.

Damn! This is a fantastic picture - and a superb design! I did my "Oberon" based on the fragments oif this baby - she is a brilliant ship this!

Look at her! You can feel the awesomeness to her! She looks a beast!

Love the synopsis too :D

Getting better at planet and star scenes sir - plaudits!

Heh heh. A bit of extra work and a few more details and such can really change something can't they? I mean just look at all those sealed gunports and launchers on the broadsides. I think she looks like a true predator now. ;)

Oh and lets not forget the vital addition of the Magellan Star to her ventral docking collar.

Your take is another thing altogether, but the "Chris Oberon" or Ttiana as we now call her, stands on her own as a cool design. It's all gone in a weird circle hasn't it? Yours is based on mine, which is based on yours. :?

The synopsis, yeah it's nice, not mine though. The BQ wrote that. See she can do nice things. She deliberately left it ambiguous as to who is sending it, which just works. Feel free to guess though. =p

I'm getting far more comfortable doing scenes now and learning new tricks all the time and yeah I think it's beginning to show. I'm quite happy with the way the composition turned out even the rings around the planet seem to work. I even resisted the urge to throw some fighters in and just kept it simple.

Oh btw did you spot what the A/O class binary star system looks like? I couldn't resist that. ;)

Glad you like it though, it has it's moments! =p

Indeed - she looks a magificent monster - all proud and formidable.

Of course - the Magellan Star - a star in its own way :)

Ahhhhhhhhhh the cunundrum within a cunundrum, within a cunundrum!! We are not going that way TMI! LOL!

I am surprised - surprised that she has let you live saying that :P

I saw them - class!

Now now, stop pinching my line :P

Keep pushing yourself sir - who knows what will come to pass!

Well you and I both know the significance of the Magellan. It'd be a crime to not have her in an image of the Oberon, Of course we are missing something else vital to the Oberon's story. But since we've not decided what form it will take yet there's not much that can be done about that.

Going to add a few more pictures with the Magellan Star soon there's a lot that can be done now I have a (halfway) decent model of a buccaneer class dropship. :D

You may be right, better keep mum on that conundrum. For now.

Frankly I'd be more worried about yourself after that comment about her sir. =P

Do I have to? It's a good line. =P

Tiamat class next I think, or maybe the Ian Cameron. I can't decide, what do you think? ;)

The Omega class from B5 is one of my favourite warship designs so it was only natural I'd use elements from its design for inspiration. ;)
