The Titania by dsherratt74 The Titania by dsherratt74
The flagship of the SLDF's Battlegroup Titania. The SLS Titania herself.

This 1,850,000 ton monster was one of the largest warships ever built by the Star League. Armed with 88 AR-10 capship missiles, 28 Naval Autocannons, 16 Naval class PPCs, 10 Naval class Gauss Cannons and 12 Naval Laser cannons the Titaina could deal incredible damage in a single salvo, enough to cripple most other ships.

Her 96 SDS drone fighters provided a deadly anti-fighter screen backed up with multiple standard class weapons including over 50 LRM 20s with AFCS and 50 Gauss Rifles.

The armoured prow of the vessel could withstand a concentrated salvo from more than 50 Heavy Gauss cannons before being breached, while her side and rear armour had the strength to withstand 20 such hits before buckling.

The Ttiania also had the capacity to carry 7 dropships and was considered the most advanced ship in the Star League.

Credit to :iconcolourbrand: for his interpretation of my CSV Oberon which was the template for this baby.

Considering the Oberon, comparing this to a spear would probably be accurate as well. Reminds me of some African spears, which have the traditional pointed end but additional on the sides.

Of course, African spears that are rather similar to this tend to gut a person when pulling the spearhead out instead of fire guns into them after ramming. But I guess the end result is fairly similar in regards to damage, a ship that's got its insides in pieces. The Oberon's armor doesn't come to a point like this one seems to, so this seems fairly spear-like because of it if the armor moves in a similar manner to Oberon's.

Well we have :iconcolourbrand: to thank for the shape of the Titania. He came up with the ship itself basing it on the Oberon. in a weird kind of twist my ship influenced his which in the story we're telling is based upon his. Confusing I know.

It's prow is far simpler though the four parts simply slide together. I've got an image of the two of them on here called Enigna which shows the Titania with it's prow closed but I also have another one of the two of them fighting side by side which I'm working on.

Well, some days it's the more complicated that follows after the simpler. Titania looks like it could come before or after, but the way you guys have it is that its front is simpler and the prototype of Oberon's, which is uniquely complex.

I did see Enigma already, which is also getting me interested in the stories as well. Titania's the sleeker of the two, but it seems a bit less war-like as well.

Nah, the Titania has heavier firepower and is bigger, but lacks the masses of armour of the Oberon. She also lacks the EMP cannons but she's every bit as nasty. It's computer system is much meaner too. Only a fool would thing it weaker, as some folks will discover in the story.

We're hoping to get some of the story up soon. But we have a lot of work to do on it however it's already shaping up to be something unique in the BattleTech universe.

Ah, so it'd probably not be able to sustain the ramming charges as well as the Oberon. And it'd probably not last as long in a firefight as far as continuous barrages. But it's just as able to take down ships, if not more. I see. Well, considering the BattleTech universe...Sometimes older stuff is far more powerful, especially when you consider the fact that while it's old it's probably the more expensive of the two in terms of armaments and the like.

I see. Unique stuff tends to be very hard to keep true to the source material, especially when it's more fan-related. But it's still possible.

Oh no she can ram just as well as the Oberon. She has 5400 tons of armour in total compared to the Oberon's 5300 it's just not as damage resistant being older the older Ferro-carbide and not the newer Lamellor Ferro-carbide which is stronger and lighter. There's more than 1600 tons of armour on the nose, not as much as the Oberon's 1900 tons I admit but still several hundred times more than most other warships. So yeah the Titania can keep up with the Oberon when ramming enemies.

Keeping the story true to the source is part of the reason it's taking so long to get the tale done, we're throwing a lot a wild ideas out there but we want it to stay true as possible to the source material. We've got a mass of ships and other things that we have to fit into the universe feasibly without saying they are just there, deal with it. That's just insulting to the source material and the reader as well I feel.

Ah, I see. I keep on mentioning stuff like WWII, but it's like a WWII tank versus an M1 Abrams or any other modern tank. The WWII tank is just as heavy if not heavier, but its armor is less effective due to using older methods. It's still effective, but just not as effective as modern armors.

Not surprising, most of them are very difficult like that. An RP I was invited into was done immediately after one of the games, and we had to make stuff up sometimes and try to find a way to fit it without decimating what the games had in it. It wasn't as difficult as it could've been, but it was still hard to do without just throwing it in and saying it always had been.

That's it exactly. It's older tech so not as tough, but it's more than a match for anything from it's 28th century timeframe. But fastforward to the 31st century and it's still as nasty as hell, just not as nasty. :D

I felt she deserved a proper picture, and one that really showed her size. :D

Don't you just love how tiny those Deimos SDS fighters are compared to their homebase?

I would also have sent you this before uploading it, but well, I wanted it to de a surprise. :)

Glad you like it though.

Still have a few bits to add to the Oberon to finish her off. But I have managed to make a model of the Magellan Star to scale. :D

I'm afraid not, I think that design oversight only applies to large moon sized/shaped space stations. It does however have a smart computer that refuses to open bay doors. ;)

What no Mass Driver on the Spinal Mount? ;)

Well I could say the WoB were the first to mount such weapons on their ships not the SLDF, but where's the fun in that?

So lets look at it from a tactical point of view shall we?

Medium Mass Driver (largest it can mount being under 2,000,000 tons)
100pts damage
50,000 tons
Max range 36 hexes
60 tons ammo per shot
Automatic +2 penalty to hit at all ranges

7 Heavy NGauss Cannons
210pts damage (assuming they all hit)
49,000 tons
Max range 48 hexes
14 tons ammo per salvo
No automatic penalty

So, in short NO!!!

Okay, granted the Titania doesn't have 7 Heavy N-Guass on its prow it only has 4 but that's still more damage than a Medium Mass driver, and you have 4 chances to do 30pts of damage not just 1 (poor)chance to 100pts.

Even the TH failed to see its use as a weapon. Only a bunch of Robes would consider it a good thing to use to against other ships.

Like much the Word of Blake developed over the course of the Jihad, the Mass Driver is a terror weapon, nothing more. And at best its a very poor terror weapon.

Okay, I'm done. :D

Lol, I guess I hang on to the Mass Drive from my old Renegade Legion Leviathan days.

Nothing like snapping any ship lighter than a cruiser in half with the spinal mount "crow bar"

;)

And yes I am trying to think like a WoBie, the players in my campaign are starting to encounter more and more of the Toasters. *Evil laughter*
*coughs*

Forget the "crow bar" just use the ships own mass to do the damage. It's far more satisfying smashing through smaller ships with a heavily armoured nose, saves ammo too. :evillaugh:

And may I point out it is a very bad idea imitating a Wobbie or even trying to think like one, the health risks involved don't bear thinking about.

Please remain where you are, a group of ComStar medical officers from our friendly ROM division will be with you shortly to escort you to a nice mental health facility and get you the psychiatric support you clearly need. =p

Ahh but you see the "Demo Agents" or formerly known as the "Commandos", are the true power behind everything in the universe. ;)

We are the "True Masters" not these metaled up abominations that came about because a writer had to much pizza and wings before bed. :P

Besides, my Heart and Loyalties will always be with the SLDF. :)

I'm just wondering why you put the hangers in the spin gravity section of the hull? wouldn't it be easier if it was in the 0g section of the hull? and put the crew in the gravity effected sections? it looks great btw

Thanks glad you like it. :D

The hanger positions was one of :iconcolourbrand: ideas from his interpretation of my original CSV Oberon design. He thought it'd be a good way to launch a defensive fighter screen around the craft fast. It unusual sure, but that's what makes it good. :)

Crew positioning however isn't too much of an issue as the central beam of ship's rotating section extends within the front and rear superstructure itself and runs nearly two thirds the length of the ship. More than enough space for the 800 crew to enjoy a comfortable 1g stardard.

Yes. It'll be on here when I get the second DRR story finished. Or maybe a bit sooner.

The three of us who are working on it are still working on a lot of details, but so far it's looking pretty good. No BattleMechs or major ground battles, it's centred around the starships of the BattleTech universe.
